For the past month or more, rumors about a new smaller iPhone have been circling the internet without any official confirmation about is existence. Finally today, the Cupertino based company announced and unveiled the iPhone SE along with some other products and software at an event held in their headquarters. While people in the US and other countries got a chance to watch the event as it happened either in person or online, many of us missed out on the live action. So, in case you missed out, we have compiled a list of the most important announcements that were made at the iPhone SE event.
Small in size. Big in performance
That should have been the tagline for Apple’s latest smartphone – the iPhone SE. If you have been following up with the latest news online, you would know that the latest iteration to the iPhone family is all about its small size. Built with a 4 inch display, the device is unnaturally a step down from the larger iPhone 6 and 6s Plus devices. One wonders why Apple would actually make this seemingly risky move and one answer resounded through every source – Customer’s Requests. Yes, that is right. Apple fans and customers have asked for a smaller phone and they got exactly that with the iPhone SE. While the size of the device has been reduced, Apple ensured that it didn’t get chopped down in performance as well.
The iPhone SE is powered by the A9 processor which is found on the latest devices such as the iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6s and 6s Plus. That isn’t the end though, because Apple knows people love how the iPhone camera works, so they added in a 12MP iSight camera with 4K video recording and Live Photos capabilities. On the front, they also included a 1.2MP FaceTime HD Camera which can shoot Full HD videos. The device comes with either 16GB or 64GB storage capacities and carried a price tag of $399 for the base model while the 64GB variant costs $499. The rest of the device is pretty similar to the iPhone 5s (Apple’s most loved and probably most wanted iPhone till date).
The Year of the Shrinkage?
It seems like Apple has taken the famous phrase and turned it around because it seems they are now, “Go Small or Go Home” fans. We saw how they have reduced the size of the next gen iPhone and that trait carries over to the new iPad Pro Coming in with a 9.7 inch display, the new iPad Pro is just as powerful as its bigger brother. It is fitted with the same A9X chipset and is available with a choice of 32/128/256 GB internal storages which cost $599, $749 and $899 respectively. The device comes with a 12MP iSight camera that is capable of shooting 4K videos as well as Slo-Mo videos. There is a Smart Connector on the side that is used for attaching accessories like keyboards.
Cheaper Apple Watch with New Bands
Apple may not have announced a new smartwatch in their lineup, but they did ensure that users will get the latest software for the device by announcing the arrival of watchOS 2.2. They even slashed the price of the base model from $349 to $299. The icing on the cake was the introduction of a new line of woven nylon bands for the Apple Watch that is available in a variety of colors.
New Software for Everyone
iOS 9.3: Apple had been teasing its fans with the release of the latest software for mobile devices – iOS 9.3 and even went all the way to reveal all its features. So, today when they officially announced the update, people couldn’t wait to get working on the new OS. Night Shift, Safer Notes, 3D Touch in Stock Apps, Improved News with Gestures, Better Wi-Fi Assistance, iOS in Education, Enhanced Health app and Better CarPlay are just some of the changes iOS 9.3 brings.
OS X El Capitan 10.11.4: The most popular Mac OS just got a bunch of new features such as Secure Notes, Sharing Live Photos through AirDrop, PDF’s from iBooks get stored in iCloud, Enhances Safari experience and much more.
There you have it, the Apple iPhone SE event in a nutshell (of sorts). Mentioned above are the most noteworthy announcements made by the Cupertino based company at the event that took place earlier today. There is no doubt that the iPhone SE was the standout product for the event and the company alike. Hope you are caught up with everything important now.
